Maurice Law applauds $3.8 million fine to Husky for oil spill

June 13, 2019

Maurice Law applauds the $3.8 million fine handed down to Husky by Saskatchewan Provincial Court Judge Lorna Dyck on June 12, 2019, following Husky’s guilty plea to environmental charges in relation to a heavy oil spill in 2016.

Chief Wayne Semaganis of Little Pine First Nation provided a victim impact statement on behalf of Little Pine, Sweetgrass First Nation, and Red Pheasant Cree Nation in relation to the spill that saw about 225,000 litres of diluted heavy oil spill from Husky’s pipeline near Maidstone in west-central Saskatchewan. Husky reported that about 40 per cent entered into the South Saskatchewan River, impacting tens of thousands of people downstream.
