Steven Carey
Steve joined the Maurice Law team as an Articling Student in the summer of 2010 and has remained on as an Associate after being called to the Bar of the Law Society of Alberta in September 2011. Since beginning his articles, Steve has been involved in a wide variety of practice areas including Aboriginal rights and title litigation, First Nations corporate governance, employment, consultation and accommodation, and has developed a particular focus on specific claims, corporate law and major on-reserve resource development projects.
While attaining his LL.B/J.D. from the University of Alberta, Steve concentrated his studies on First Nations legal issues, and he was employed as a research student for one of Alberta’s preeminent academics on several large projects relating to Métis land rights and strategies associated with the litigation thereof. Prior to attending law school, Steve was awarded a First Class Honours degree in political science from the University of Calgary in 2006.
