Carissa commenced her articles with Maurice Law in 2008.  She split her legal studies between the University of British Columbia and University of Calgary graduating from the University of Calgary in 2008.  In her undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary, Carissa majored in the Law and Society program with a minor in Native North American Studies completing her BA in 2005.

 

Prior to attending law school, Carissa worked in oil and gas primarily in midstream and downstream markets and energy trading for 12 years.  During her career she negotiated ISDA, GasEDI, NAESB, CAPLA and PJVA contracts, coordinated regulatory compliance with the NEB, ERCB, Manitoba PUB, BC Ministry of Energy and Mines and OEB and participated in corporate governance and restructuring projects.  She was a member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Land Administration (CAPLA) and Petroleum Joint Venture Association (PJVA) and was a GasEDI Working Committee Member for National Standardization of the 2000 Gas Purchase & Sale Agreement.

 

Carissa is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and Indigenous Bar Association and is honored to have the opportunity to develop her knowledge of aboriginal law including land claims, hunting and fishing rights and the Crown’s duty to consult.
